The Tension is a young rock band hailing from New York City. The band consists of vocalist Jack Staffen, co-lead guitarists Jack Moulton and
Daniel Risdon, bassist Gabe Simon and drummer Damien Moffitt. They met
each other through a rock collective of young talented musicians called
Tomato’s House of Rock (THOR).
Over the summer of 2010, at a recording
intensive they did through THOR, the band met, began to write and recorded a 3 song demo (produced by Tomato of Sound of Urchin, and Doug Gillard of Guided by Voices) at James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins) and Adam Schlesinger's (Fourntains of Wayne) famed Stratosphere Sound.
After taking a year to truly hone their own style and write more songs, they went back to Stratosphere to record a self-titled 10 song album, produced by Tomato and mixed by Ruddy Cullers. In this album they have brought a completely new rock sound to the table unlike anything heard before. Their sound is often described as technical and moody music, with a classic power, feel, and groove. Sounds pretty epic, huh?
The Tension is just at the beginning of its career, and with the combination of the uniqueness of the sound, and the distinct musical personalities of every member of the band, I can tell that they're going to go far.
Also, check out how well they dress!
